Assessing Progression Risk in Cancer: Expression signatures may be useful for assessing greatest risk of progression in prostate and other cancers -- ScienceDaily

Assessing Progression Risk in Cancer: Expression signatures may be useful for assessing greatest risk of progression in prostate and other cancers -- ScienceDaily : A molecular feature in prostate cancer, called endogenous retroviral (ERV) RNA, has been found to have prognostic value and also distinguish differences between men of African and European or Middle Eastern ancestry, according to a new study. The team also identified ERV expression signatures that may be useful for identifying prostate cancer patients at greatest risk of progression regardless of ancestry, which may also extend to progression in other cancers.

23andMe gets FDA clearance for prostate cancer risk test - The Verge

23andMe gets FDA clearance for prostate cancer risk test - The Verge theverge.com 23andMe gets FDA clearance for prostate cancer risk test Nicole Wetsman 3-4 minutes Genetics testing company 23andMe received Food and Drug Administration clearance for its prostate cancer risk test, the company announced today . It’s 23andMe’s third clearance for a cancer risk report — the company also has tests for genes that predict breast and colorectal cancer risk. The test screens for a specific mutation on the HOXB13 gene linked with an increased risk of developing prostate cancer. Men with the mutation, the G84E variant, have around a three-fold higher chance of developing prostate cancer than men without, one study found. Around one in 70 people of European descent have the variant, according to a statement from 23andMe. The prostate cancer risk report is not yet available to 23andMe customer

California Democrats Revive Universal Healthcare Bill

California Democrats Revive Universal Healthcare Bill medscape.com California Democrats Revive Universal Healthcare Bill Adam Beam, Associated Press 3-4 minutes SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — What could be the nation's first universal health care system found new life on Thursday after California Democrats proposed steep tax hikes to pay for it, prompting strong opposition from insurers, doctors and Republicans at the start of an election year. Progressives in California's Democratic-dominated state Legislature have long called for a universal health care system to replace the one that mostly relies on private insurance companies. But their plans have often stalled over questions about how to pay for it in a state with nearly 40 million residents. Assemblyman Ash Kalra proposed an amendment to the state Constitution that would impose an annual tax of 2.3% on businesses that have at
