Paige's AI Diagnostic Tech is Revolutionizing Cancer Diagnosis - IEEE Spectrum

Paige's AI Diagnostic Tech is Revolutionizing Cancer Diagnosis - IEEE Spectrum : Cancer pathology today involves examining tissue samples under a microscope to make diagnoses. But tissues and disease markers can vary widely, so it's common for pathologists to seek a second opinion or conduct more tests. Paige's technology streamlines the process by digitizing it. The company has exclusive rights to tens of thousands of already-analyzed pathology slides from Memorial Sloan Kettering and has scanned them into its system to create a database of high-resolution images. The company's proprietary machine-learning system is trained to detect patterns in the images that correlate with disease prognosis. When a new tissue scan comes in, the system can classify it based on its training. Rather than phoning a colleague or doing extra testing, a pathologist can use the AI-based system to make decisions more quickly and easily, Grady says.

Fear of prostate cancer recurrence post-surgery | THE "NEW" PROSTATE CANCER INFOLINK prostatecancerinfolink.net Fear of prostate cancer recurrence post-surgery 4-5 minutes Posted on August 19, 2021 by Sitemaster A new paper by Meissner et al. has reported important, long-term data on fear of recurrence and biochemical progression of prostate cancer among a large cohort of German patients undergoing radical prostatectomy. This appears to be the largest such study to date. The results of this study are based on a total of 2,417 survivors from the multicenter German Familial Prostate Cancer Database all of whom had been initially treated by radical prostatectomy.  These patients completed the Fear of Progression Questionnaire – Short Form twice : on average at 7 years after radical prostatectomy (T1 in 2010) and again at follow-up 9 y

Whole-pelvic radiation therapy for high-risk patients | THE "NEW" PROSTATE CANCER INFOLINK prostatecancerinfolink.net Whole-pelvic radiation therapy for high-risk patients 5-7 minutes Posted on August 19, 2021 by Sitemaster The decision about whether or not to treat the entire pelvic lymph node area along with the prostate (called whole pelvic radiation therapy or WPRT) or to treat just the prostate with a margin around it (called prostate-only radiation therapy or PORT) has long been a matter of judgment. Now we have proof of its benefit in most high-risk patients. Murthy et al. reported the results of “POP-RT,” a randomized clinical trial conducted among 224 high-risk and very high-risk patients treated at the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India between 2011 to 2017. What sets this trial apart from previous trials that had eq

Researchers uncover a way to harness the power of immunotherapy for advanced prostate cancer -- ScienceDaily

Researchers uncover a way to harness the power of immunotherapy for advanced prostate cancer -- ScienceDaily sciencedaily.com Researchers uncover a way to harness the power of immunotherapy for advanced prostate cancer 5-6 minutes It's a scientific riddle tangled up in a complex web. How do you turn an immune cold cancer into one that responds to immunotherapy? Researchers led by the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center started with a simple thread: an inhibitor that showed promise against metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer cells. This is the most challenging type of prostate cancer -- advanced disease that has become resistant to hormone-based treatment. From there, they continued to untangle the web to discover multiple levels of cellular processes that were preventing the immune system from mounting a response. Break past them with this inhibitor and suddenly
